We are based at Allihies Copper Mine Museum.
A group of astronomy and wildlife enthusiasts in Allihies who want to create interest in the effects of light pollution in our area.
We run educational tours and workshops. We have expertise in optical systems for both observing and photography. Some examples of our work.
- An assortment of portable telescopes giving great views of the moon and planets.
- The distant stars give out their own light behind dark clouds in this dark-sky area.
- Observation of the moon at Ballydonegan beach.
- Various phenomena can be observed and explored.. Here is “The Da Vinci Light” or “Earthshine”, visible on the dark side of the moon.
- Thousands of stars can be seen on any clear night of the year.
- Sunset between Skellig Islands can be observed from our location.
From the drama of Ballydonegan Beach to the silence of the hills behind the museum, the skies above Allihies are alive. We want to help you see them, photograph them, and understand why keeping our skies dark is so vital for both astronomy and local wildlife.
Come join us and see the southwest coast in a whole new light.
