COMMUNITY INITIATIVES & PROJECTS
Allihies Coastal Educational Hub was established as a result of a feasibility study that identified the need for an education centre for all ages and groups. The hub caters to the wider community as a drop-in centre. A series of workshops and courses are run in the hub. Printing and high-speed facilities are available for both independent and local businesses.
Allihies is a vibrant community consisting of a museum, restaurant, cáfe, three pubs and a grocery shop. There is a strong sense of community with such projects as the Allihies Community Allotments being administered under the Allihies Men’s Shed. Allihies Community Hall also hosts quiz nights, wedding receptions, birthday parties, gigs, and yoga and boasts a recently newly refurbished gym. As well as farming, fishing and tourism, the region is also sustained by the arts culture it has developed. Artists, craft workers and writers, truly inspired by the rugged beauty of the landscape, have made Allihies their home.
